13 Oct Broward County Ride Share (TNC) Vote – Heikel to Taxi Industry: ‘Invest in Modernizing’
County Commissioners Should Take a ‘Common-Sense Approach’ In Legalizing TNCs
ZabCab Founder and CEO Martin Heikel cautioned the taxicab industry today about expending too much energy in fighting ride share apps from entering into new markets, and called for Broward County Commissioners to take a common-sense approach in legitimizing the TNC industry. Heikel, who two weeks ago successfully launched the ZabCab taxi app in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties of South Florida, said the taxi industry needs to focus on changes that will make consumers happy, in order to compete with rideshare apps.
“We think a common-sense approach requiring ride shares to operate with stringent Level Two background checks and adequate commercial insurance is a no-brainer from a public safety perspective in Broward County.
“Competition and innovation are healthy for the taxi industry, which should continue its efforts, without distraction, to heavily invest in modernizing the passenger experience. That’s the precise reason why we created the ZabCab taxi app, as an overwhelming majority of riders—80%—are using taxis.”
